How He Loves

I just love Christmas time. It such a cozy holiday. It makes me want to warm up to a fire and just be with family. Most importantly though, it is a time for reflecting on what an amazing gift we have in Jesus. I am constantly amazed at his goodness and grace in my life. The other day while Kaitlyn and I were eating lunch I asked her.. "Do you know whose birthday is coming up?" She said, "Jesus!" and I said "yes!" She then asked, "Are we going to make him a birthday cake?" I told her it sounded like a good idea to me! We are always talking about whose birthday is coming up next in our family and she knows the normal routine of cake and presents etc. She also asked "Are we going to get him presents?" It got me thinking... You know, all he really wants from us is to love Him and understand how much he loves us. We sang a song this past Sunday called "How He loves" .. the first line hit me like a pound in the heart... and I have heard it before but this time it really made me think. He is jealous for me. He is jealous for ME! He wants to spend time with ME. I started to think about all the ways I spend my time, how I can easily get distracted and my time seems to fill up everyday... with normal things like, getting the kids ready for the day, making their breakfast, lunch, dinner, cleaning up toys, going to the gym, doing laundry, grocery shopping, talking on the phone or being on the computer, etc... He watches me fill my day and waits for me to just sit with him, with out distraction, and just be with him. Wow, He is jealous for ME?! Amazing. In every smile on my husbands face, or laughter in my children's voices, in the hug from a friend, in every tree that changes colors, in every rushing wind and rolling brook of water.. I know He loves me. He shows me everyday.. I just have to take time to notice. So all of this to say... don't get all caught up in the hustle and bustle of buying gifts and stress out over silly pressures of what the season can sometimes bring, take time to rest and know how much you are loved by an infinite God who is jealous for you!

Here are the words to the song I was referring to:

He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realise just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us so,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all

Yeah, He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves.

We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
And Heaven meets earth like an unforseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…

He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves us,
Oh! how He loves
